Acupuncture, an ancient therapeutic technique, is emerging as an important modality of complementary medicine in the United States.
Acupuncture or Traditional Chinese Medicine has been around for thousands of years. It's existence even predates the Bible.
The traditional Chinese theory is very different from that of Western medicine. In traditional Chinese medicine, health results form a harmonious balance between the complementary extremes (yin and yang) of the life force known as qi or chi. When balance is restored, health is achieved.
Acupuncture is a well established alternative health care in the U.S.. It is the art of applying thin needles to points below the skin along the meridians. Stimulating these points promotes the body's natural healing capabilities and enhances its function thus restoring the energetic balance (Qi) in the body. The purpose is to treat the causal factors creating the symptom, not just treating the symptoms.
Chinese Diagnosis
Diagnosis is the first step in balancing your body. There are 12 different readings that are taken from your pulse that tell the practitioner which organs are out of balance.
Next, the practitioner looks at your tongue. There is a lot of information the tongue can tell us.
With these important starting points, we can diagnose which organs are in need of balancing and what points to use.
TCM in America
Acupuncture was introduced to America in the last twenty, maybe thirty years.
Since its introduction, scientists have been literally putting this ancient practice under the microscope trying to ascertain how it works. But as hard as they tried and as deep as they looked, it remained a mystery.
Scientists did make some headway though. They were able to see that it helps you relax you, released endorphins that make you feel happy, relieves pain, is great for surgery, stimulates the immune system, but were not able to prove exactly how or why this happens. Conclusion: We can't prove it .....so..... it doesn't work.
Who cares what they think. Just because they cannot prove it works shouldn't take validity from the process. They only know one way. Their way. If it doesn't fit into their mold, it's useless.
The bottom line is; Acupuncture works. If it didn't work, it would have been forgotten a long time ago.
On a positive note, the World Health Organization came out with a report and lists the following symptoms, diseases and conditions that have been shown, through controlled trials, to be treated effectively by acupuncture:
In the East, the health care system worked differently than here. Acupuncture was all about prevention. Acupuncturists got paid to keep you healthy. As long as you were healthy, they got paid.
If you had an ache or pain or just about any problem, you'd make a pit stop to the holistic doctor. His office might remind you of Starbucks. Lots of people hanging out in one room, gossiping with friends, catching up on the latest events, getting a treatment and sipping some herbal tea. The needles were inserted right through the clothes. No undressing. Fifteen minutes later, you were on your way, feeling better and balanced, less stressed and ready to go.
Now here is the twist. When you really got sick, you stopped paying. You heard me right, you stopped paying. It was their job to get you healthy and only then did you start paying again. Just the opposite of here.
In the West, you don't pay the doctor until you get really sick; it has to be so bad that you see it on all the reports, EEG, EKG, MRI or blood test. Then you pay through the nose, and pay and pay and pay, because by now it's a huge problem, rather than just an annoyance. And this is called health care? Sounds more like sick care.
So the most important thing to get into your head is that prevention is cheaper and better. Get treated for you allergies first ant them get treatments on a regular basis. It's a lot like working out to stay in shape. You can't expect to go once or twice and expect to feel good and be in shape.
I mentioned allergies.......
Why should I be concerned about allergies?
Allergies and even food sensitivities reek havoc on your whole body, including your immune system. This little analogy will show exactly what I mean.
Everything is good. Then a new neighbor moves in next store. His name is Mr. Food. He is a great neighbor. He comes over and even brings things that you like to eat. Life is good.
Then someone else moves in with him. He comes over again, but this time, he brings his friend. But you don't really like his friend. You try to be a good neighbor, but even eating the food he brings over isn't the same with this annoying addition. You are no longer nourished from this relationship. This combination is starting to make you sick. Always coming over. Not calling first. Now we have a sensitivity issue. When this happens, you just feel irritated. What's worse, this new new addition to the neighborhood plays his music really loud at night and has parties all the time.
Now you get to the point when you can't even stand to see these two guys at all. He literally makes you sick. You are now having an allergic reaction.
Funny thing now, even when Mr. Food comes over without the other guy, you still don't feel good and you are not open to anything he has to offer.
We can help you eliminate your allergies so they don't bother you anymore, and more important than that, you will be able to absorb the nutrients from the basic foods that sustain your health and wellbeing.
